Objective: To create wind sculptures that depict the endangered birds and wildlife of the Florida Everglades National Park. These sculptures are mounted on the newly installed solar and wind powered lamp posts located in the parking lot of Port Everglades Cruise Terminal 4. These wind sculptures greet visitors and can be seen from the street as you enter the parking lot as well as from the terminal waiting room.
Artistic Idea: We have chosen 8 colorful birds to represent and celebrate the beautiful wildlife seen in the Everglades National Park, one of the most popular tuorist destinations in the US. The birds move in weathervane fashion, pointing in whatever direction of the wind is blowing. In contrast, the elements below each bird (fish, frogs, butterflies, and leaves) move in a continuous circular motion. Our idea is to bring recognition to the many endangered species of the Florida Everglades. We created sculptures that instantly attract viewers attention with vibrant colors in combination with wind generated movement. We want visitors to enjoy the amazing beauty of these birds and leave with a remembrance that we need to protect the natural wildlife of the Florida Everglades.
