Sculptures by Jonathan Russell and Saori Ide

ENERGY TREE is a monumental kinetic sculpture that represents the city's abundant natural resources. It stands 27 feet high and moves with the wind. The base of the sculpture represents the layers of the earth. Horizontal bands of light cascade upward, symbolizing energy gathered from below, like a tree with deep roots, rising up to give life to the elements above. Circles in many cultures represent Harmony, Balance, Totality and Wholeness. LED lighting will circle (or chase) around the edge of each ring to convey the idea of an electron circling around its nucleus. This symbolizes energy drawn from the earth. The jewel like objects in the center of each circle are the result of this energy, or the fruit that this "tree" has produced.
